Feature request: cast volume to 3D tiff in addition to stacks of 2D tiffs

Would it be possible to add a file output option "3D tiff" to "cast volume"? Modern machines have typically enough RAM to load "normal-sized" (smaller 16GB) volumes. 3D-tiffs are included in most (all?) scikit-image io backends from numpy and drastically improve io compared to stacks of 2D tiff. Such a feature would really help intermediate users who know their way around in ImageJ and other common image processing software, but are not yet comfortable working in hdf5.
